Our experienced and dedicated team think outside the square and are experts in providing a practical and balanced approach to our work, proactively identifying, assessing and managing a variety of heritage projects.

About the role

An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced and motivated Senior Heritage Consultant to join our small, dedicated and well-respected practice. This is a full-time position offering the opportunity to work on a diverse and rewarding portfolio of heritage projects across NSW, with particular focus on the built environment.

The role is based at the historic and adaptively re-used Windsor Fire Station in northwest Sydney and involves a mix of office-based work, site inspections and project collaboration with a wide range of clients and industry professionals.

Reporting to the Director and supported by a small team of experienced heritage experts, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality heritage advice, preparing complex heritage management documentation, and contributing to the management of projects of varying scale, complexity and significance. 

What we’re looking for

Having a passion for heritage management and conservation practice within the built environment, you’ll also bring to the team the following skills:

  • Tertiary qualifications in relevant heritage disciplines such as Heritage Conservation, Heritage Practice, Cultural Heritage, Museum & Heritage Studies, Architecture, Town Planning or Archaeology.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in heritage management and conservation practice.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills with a good command of the English language, experience in client relationship management, and generally demonstrate good ‘people skills’.
  • Excellent writing skills and demonstrated experience in preparing a variety of heritage management documents.
  • Thorough knowledge of the NSW heritage management system, including legislation and an understanding of current best practice and methodology, including the Australia ICOMOS Burra Charter and industry guidelines / practice notes.
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities and an interest in mentoring and coaching others.
  • Willingness to be involved in the full spectrum of office and project tasks, including general admin, and time management.
  • Current NSW Drivers licence.
  • Safe Work NSW construction induction training (“White Card”).
  • Experience in Land and Environment Court proceedings desirable but not essential.
Responsibilities
  • Work collaboratively and independently to prepare and peer-review a variety of heritage management documents, including:
    • Heritage Impact Statements
    • Conservation Management Plans
    • Interpretation Strategies and Plans
    • Photographic Archival Recordings
    • Schedules of Conservation Works
    • Salvage Schedules
    • Minor Works Heritage Exemptions
    • Curtilage Analysis and conservation advice.
  • Undertake historical research, site inspections and related fieldwork.
  • Lead and manage allocated projects, including team collaboration.
  • Provide sound and reliable heritage advice at a senior level to Clients, Government agencies and other industry professionals to facilitate appropriate heritage outcomes and resolve complex heritage matters. 
  • Contribute to design development, documentation and construction phases, undertaking progress inspections and directing conservation works, and providing pragmatic technical advice to resolve arising conservation issues.
  • Contribute to the preparation of fee proposals, tenders and submissions, promoting EHC and its services to create new business opportunities.
